Trip to El Hatillo

El Hatillo is a quaint little town situated about 45 min south of Caracas - it is a popular week-end destination for tourists and locals alike to spend an afternoon browsing small shops, having a bite to eat, or passing the time in the square. We did a little bit of each...

We were starving when we arrived, so we quickly found a restaurant called el Rincon de Hatillo where we had some yummy pizza and grilled meats. Pickle loved my fresh berry juice and drank most of it!

If there's one thing that Pickle likes it's being outside. I don't think that smile ever left his face as he checked out the trees, birds, and of course, the chicas (girls). Juan Carlos says he going to leave many 'corazones rotos' (broken hearts) in Venezuela.

My heart about stopped when I saw Carrie eating churros, fried dough sticks doused in honey. You may never see anything like this again. Hmmmmh! Plus, we had some of the thickest hot chocolate you can imagine. Gracias a Juan Carlos for the recommendation!

First Week in Caracas

The city of Caracas is nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains and rolling hills. Here we're standing at a look-out not far from the apartment we'll move into in March. We're looking to the north, so just over those mountains is the ocean and fabulous beaches that the locals like to visit on the week-ends.

We love the people and the climate. Our driver Juan Carlos is a friendly guy who really likes Nicholas, or 'pepinito' as he calls him, his version of Pickle, which translates to 'little cucumber'. It's only too bad the city is not really safe enough to walk around freely. We did find a nice park where we had a picnic...

Nicholas loves the liquid yogurt. Hmmmm - does he like being photographed....?
....yeah, he likes it!!!!!
I told you Nicholas loves to eat. His new name here besides "pepinito" is "gordito" (little fatty). He is a chunk, but he'll run it off later. And no, he's not so big that we couldn't button his shirt, we were just lazy : )
Dada made a vase from a water jug for Carrie's Valentine's flowers. Juan Carlos picked them up for us - maybe we can get used to this driver thing! The top of the jug made a hat perfectly sized for Pickle.

Traveling to Venezuela

Nicholas loved the plane! He took good naps and was completely fascinated by the new surroundings.
Nicholas strutting his stuff at the Marriott in Caracas. This was the 1st time I saw Pickle stand up by himself other than in his crib. His whole goal in life right now when he's awake is to try and pull up on stuff. - Mike
Now you know where Nicholas got his eyes!
Pickle loves the water just like mama!
