The World's Best Athlete Today

Can I throw out a question. Who is CURRENTLY the world's best athlete? 5 or so years ago the answer for me would have been Lance Armstrong hands down, but I think there could be several contenders today. What's your opinion? I'll share mine later...I need a bit longer to decide.

The World's Best Article of Clothing

I'm the best article of clothing ever invented...
You see me everywhere in various colors, though there's one I prefer
I'm great with the right ensemble for accompanying you to a nice restaurant
Or mucking around in the yard or going camping
I seem to be comfortable whether it's hot or cold,
outside or inside just lounging around after a long day's work
I always look great whether freshly washed or two days old from the bottom of the suitcase
And I pride myself on lasting nearly forever if you buy me in my favorite brand.
What am I?

Happy Birthday to You!!!

We had a bug hunt for the kids. Luckily they didn't find any real ones : )
Grandpa helped Nicholas blow out the candles on his cupcake cake. He dug right in afterwards.
We got Nicholas a push car for his present. He and Mike zipped around the house chasing Cheerio. It was so funny to watch, and Nicholas laughed like crazy.
Even Cheerio got into the celebratory mood and allowed Nicholas to put a party hat on his head. These are those moments in life that just make you smile.

It's A Bug's Life

We celebrated Nicholas' 2nd birthday this weekend, and we had lots of "bugs" to eat. I made ants on a log, worms and dirt, and creepy crawly hot dogs.
Here's Nicholas' caterpillar cake. It took me forever to make it, but it was a hit. I'll never go into cake decorating as a profession : )
The birthday boy himself!

My mom hung butterflies up and got bug balloons for a festive look.

Chillin' in Seattle

I've really tried hard to teach my son the most important things in life. Him digging for the last remaining remnants of the milkshake after sucking down the easy stuff.
There's at least one person in the world who thinks Dadda's gear is cool! He stole my dork hat and sunglasses and did some of his characteristic thumb in mouth posing for us. Then he must not have gotten quite all the attention he had hoped for, so he took the sunglasses and poked a lady in the butt. A guy accompanying her says he wishes he could do that. She didn't seem to mind.
Which one makes the best fire fighter?
Lettin' loose on the play stage at the Children's museum!

Chillin' in Seattle part 2

Beautiful view of the sunset from the restaurant.
Jonah?
Tulips in Pike's Market
Takin' a rest in the park after a long day of fun.

That's no 'coon!

That's no 'coon! What is that....hmmm...that's Cheerio - shame! He tried to steal the bait and got caught red-handed.

Momma's Boys!

These pictures don't do any justice in reflecting the sacrifices that these mothers have made and continue to make for their boys. Beneath the cover of those proud, smiling faces is a endless history of small continuous acts of service, most of which go unseen without any thanks or recognition. How many diapers were changed, how many sleepless nights were had, how many noses were wiped, how many tantrums were diffused! I didn't appreciate these sort of sacrifices that Mom made for little me until there was another little me. I'm so grateful to Mom and Carrie for giving so much of themselves to raise their boys. Happy Mother's Day!

Green thumbs and muddy feet

We are diving into the world of gardening now. This weekend, we raided the nursery and hardware stores for planting materials. Nicholas is showing off his caterpillar gloves he picked out.
Now Mike has some more babies to take care of...we planted some tomatoes, green peppers, rosemary, chamomile, and cherry tomatoes. Plus, we got Nicholas his own little pot of strawberry seeds to watch over.
Yes, I'm in love with the gardener, and his helpers are mighty great too : )!

Discovery Museum

We took Nicholas to the Children's Discovery Museum in San Jose this past weekend, and he had a blast. Do we have a future firefighter on our hands?
Or an ambulance driver?
No, I bet Nicholas is going to have something to do with water since he loves playing in it so much.

It's a fine house, a very very fine house

We've all heard the story about the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Well, who would've known it's in our house. Yeah, we wish! But it's nice to know we live at the end of a rainbow.
Nicholas, Cheerio, and Mike chillin' in the pool.
We made use of all the boxes we have and made Nicholas his very own house. He loves to decorate it with stickers and crayons, and Mike even added a roof after this photo was taken.

Oops, we did it again!!

I guess we couldn't get enough of the pain from our first marathon and had to do another one. We did the Big Sur marathon last weekend and survived to tell the tale.
This is the final stretch. It was a beautiful race and I felt good the whole time. It was nice knowing Nicholas was waiting for us with my dad and stepmom at the finish line.
Victory! Mike looks great despite the chilly wind and never ending hills.
Mike mastered his cramps at mile 20 and came in strong at the finish line. I'm so proud of him and am grateful that we got to run another race together. What a great experience!!
