Feeling good about feeling good

After a 2 week hiatus from the gym to catch a few extra z's and get over a persistent & unpredictable cough, I was just thinking this morning on the way to work how good it feels to feel good again. During the normal, good times, I don't fully appreciate it. It's nice to get up early, hit the gym, get the blood pumping, and be fully awake for scripture time. It's nice to walk into work feeling like the day has already meant something. Plus the sun is shining. Life is good...until Carrie calls and says she did the mile swim already at the gym and here I was feeling proud of doing a 1/2 mile. Oh well, Carrie always shows me up. That's why I married her and that's why she does most of the raising of our son and not me. She gives me a longer leash to mess up Cheerio - poor boy! - he's 4 now...I guess that makes him about 28. He's getting so set in his ways that he can't be molded much anymore. He urrs in defiance when he can't sleep with us and he expects a bone after Nicholas going to bed. And he doesn't want to get out of bed until at least 7:30am, sometimes later. Just some thoughts!

Happy Father's Day!!

Happy Father's Day to the best dad ever! Thanks Dadda for everything you do for me! Thanks for all the toys you put together and then trip over later : ) Thanks for swinging me around in the air until we're both dizzy. Thanks for teaching me how to pet Cheerio nicely and not pull his tail - Cheerio thanks you for that too. Thanks for taking me to swim lessons even though we both turned into popsicles. Thanks for teaching me how to go to the potty - I can't wait for underwear! Thanks for all the baths and the songs you sing to me every night. I'm learning to say my prayers as we say them together every day. I'm also learning that scriptures are important and that I have to treat them gently. Thanks for taking me to priesthood all those times and letting me hang with the big boys. Thanks for honoring the priesthood and teaching me to be patient, obedient, and helpful. And thanks for loving mama and treating her like a queen. When I grow up, I want to be just like you!
For all the smiles, hugs, support, and fun I say thanks Dadda. You are the best and I love you a ton! Love, Nicholas

And Cheerio says thanks for all the walks, bones, trips to the dog park, and scratches behind the ears. There's a reason there's no other place I'd rather be than right next to you all the time.

To my wonderful husband, Happy Father's Day sweetheart. Our "boys" are so blessed to have you in their lives. You are a shining example of everything good in this life. I love you!!

Ode to Nicholas

Our precious boy!! He brings so many smiles and so much joy to our lives. We often wonder how we got so lucky to have such a sweet, happy, obedient boy. Heavenly Father saved one of his choicest for our home. Although Nicholas was a tough nut to crack in the beginning, he has become the best little being we know. He's social (he never set up a fuss when we left him with others, in nursery, or at other peoples' homes), he's obedient (he puts things in the trash for us, stops doing naughty activities when asked, sits through sacrament every time), he's happy (he smiles a lot, has the cutest laugh, and is only cranky when he's hungry, tired, or sick - who wouldn't be?), and he's a great sleeper (he sleeps great at night and takes good naps). We are so blessed to have him in our family!! We're a little scared about having another kid as we're bound to get a more difficult child (who gets so lucky twice in a row? - although as long as he/she is healthy we can't complain). Nicholas has enriched our lives so much, and we love seeing him grow up. He's a special little boy, and we love him to pieces!!! Thanks Nicholas for being who you are!!

New Pantry!

Step 1 - sorry no picture. Used to be a couple doors raised up about 18 in from the floor. No finishing.
Step 2 - cut down to the floor and setting up the basic framing
Step 3 - the finished product.
Step 4 - Carrie's favorite part - filling it up with food! No more cluttered counters or things jumping out of the cupboards at you.

The Circus is Here

We took Nicholas to the circus last weekend, and while he seemed to love feeding the elephants in South Africa, he didn't like riding one so much. Hope this elephant was deaf because he surely was after Nicholas got done with the ride : )
Here's Nicholas with his very own elephant. Mike got him some circus peanuts for the big day and he had a ball. (except for that elephant ride )
The show was fantastic, but we kept waiting for those elephants to come out. Nicholas may not like riding them, but he loved watching them. Pretty talented if you ask me!

Fun in the Sun

Nicholas and I took a trip with Julie, Kate, and Jake to Merced last week to see Rachael and Abigail. Here are the two princesses showing off. Kate's a natural ballerina and Abigail looks like she's not too far behind.
Everywhere Kate went, Nicholas went. Here they are chillin' in the pool. Kate showed me what a great swimmer she is!
Rachael, Julie, and I enjoying the kids and the sun. We ate yummy food and just hung out...the best of times!
What great friends!!! Wish we could get together more often!!

World's Best Athlete - My Take

Usain Bolt. He set the world record in the 100m and 200m last summer in the olympics. Not only that, he didn't even run hard all the way to the finish in the 100m. He was so far ahead he started looking around and celebrating early. He finished in 9.69 - simply amazing!

Runners-up. Michael Phelps, winner of 8 gold medals in the olympics; however, I couldn't get out of my mind that his own teammate, Jason Lezak, actually swam his leg of the 4/100 freestyle relay faster than Michael Phelps and faster than anyone had ever swum 100 meters. Michael Phelps is unbelievable, but in that moment Jason Lezak was better.

Lebron James. Oh so impressive and completely dominating, but if him, why not Kobe? Poor sportsmanship after the series loss to the Magic didn't help him either.
